My initial perception is VERY positive. I have a small dog that eats a total of 120g of food per day BUT he has to eat small portions throughout the day – otherwise, he makes himself sick by eating too much at one time. We have been giving him 5 small servings of food per day, but we were having a hard time keeping track of who fed him, when he last ate, etc. With this WOPET 7L Programmable Automatic Cat feeder device, I just give him a little bit of food manually with a small scooper when he wakes up each morning and then the machine takes over for the rest of the day.
The machine serves amounts of food in “portions”, and with the food I use, I weighed the amount it dispenses and 1 portion is about 6g of food. It can serve up to 40 portions at each timer interval, so I set the programmed timer for my dog to get 4 portions at each interval which is about 24g at each feeding. I saw one review which said that the feeder only serves tiny amounts of food, but I’m guessing that person only set their timer to dispense 1 portion at each feeding, which would only be 6g of food.
Technically, it would serve up to 240g of food at each interval if I programmed it to do so (6g x 40 portions = 240g). Multiply that by 4x per day and I can’t imagine what kind of dog would need more than that. My point is that you can set this device to serve as much or as little as needed for each feeding.
The setup was simple. You can program up to 4 feedings per day. I just input the times at which to feed him and how many portions to give him at each feeding. The device takes over from there.
Some designs that could be improved are the lid opening and the food tray. For the lid to open, you have to press a button and then also lift the lid at the same time. But the button is on the front of the device at the top of the dispenser which creates a situation where you can’t press it singlehandedly without pushing over the device. It probably needs a spring-loaded action to pop up the lid a little bit when the button gets pressed. The feeding bowl also seems a bit slick but I think that is a minor flaw. My dog still eats all the food to no avail. I would definitely recommend this purchase. It seems to be a very quality item for a reasonable price.
